You'll be fine.
The only problem you will have is Access DB files. I *think* filemaker can now open these and is a great DB product, very eas yto use with much graphical interface.
Only thing is, someone I know upgraded to a MackBook Pro (Intel) and his version of MS OFfice didn't appear to work.... Can't remember but I think it just immediately quit the apps...

I've got Office 2004 running on my Intel iMac and I don't seem to have any problems. It's running in Rosetta compatibility mode, so it's not native, but that doesn't seem to slow it down.
As Rich says, Access is a pain in the **** as it's not in Office for Mac, never has been.
As for opening an Access DB in Filemaker, I'll have another look but I don't think it's possible directly, unless there is a now a new version that supports this. I thought you had to use ODBC to connect to the Access database.
Don't forget that you could always use Parallels Desktop for Mac to have XP running at the same time as OS X, so all your docs would just open, plus you can use access. Files can easily be shared between the XP "Guest PC" and the Mac host.
