was gonna put this on the other thread but its a different subject really !!

i have tried asking renault, kenwood, autoleads and other places and no one has been able to tell me if the kenwood cd/mp3 unit is compatible with standard renault cd changer and the remote on the steering column.

i have seen elsewhere that the renault units are made by philips. is this the case ?? i know i am asking pretty specific questions but does anyone know anything !!!!

cheers

I reckon it's highly unlikely that either will be compatible.

In theory, it's possible to make an inline converter to take the Kenwood CD changer protocol and convert it into the Philips protocol (assuming the CD changer is made by Philips). Before you could do this, you would have to reverse engineer both protocols, as there is no publicly available documentation on either. Not a task I'd willingly undertake.

With regards to the steering column controls, I would guess that you could make an adapter for these providing that the Kenwood head unit had a cable remote input. If it uses an IR steering remote, then you are probably stuffed.

Andy.
