IT Contractor survey
are any of you chaps in IR35?
If so, which accounting company are you using and what % of your gross do you get in your pocket?
i was with prosperity 4 before and they skimmed 6% (at least 30 quid a day on my last contract) off gross.
i'm sure i can do better, so was wondering what you all do for accounting...

I use someone called CAPS costs me about £40 a week, guy I work with uses Brooksons and costs him about £30, Prosperity4 should be avoided like AIDS. I am very wary of IR35 so set money aside, if you fall under it then really an umbrella company I dont think can help you that much as it is about how you charge for work that determines IR35 ruling not how you get paid.

I have a limited company, use a local specialist accountant and always stay outside IR35. I get my accountant to run his eye over each new contract and I've not had a problem yet. My accountant says he's had to fight a number of cases with the Inland Revenue (for other clients) and has never lost.
So my advice would be to find an accountant who knows what he's on about.
For comparison, my total accountancy fees for last year (which included doing some VAT returns which I do myself now under the flat rate scheme) were £750.
