Yes they are suitable for networking. Depends what you want to network to? The laptop comes with Both RJ-45 and Wireless Networking according to the specs.....

I had the old P3-500 Inspiron , and it was fine for what I needed it for. The inspiron by the way is Dells flagship model Laptop. So if you want to just network, then have you not looked at the Latitude range?

All machines should do what you want in the network department, what else do you want it for? if its just email and surfing, maybe a few word docs then the basic model will suffice

I'm on my third laptop in 4 years and they get hammered to bits as I take them everywhere.

My current machine is an Dell Latitude 100L which has behaved admirably and i'm only replacing it as it looks tatty, because its battered and scratched (Not nice to give customers demos on!)

I had a Compaq before this and it couldnt hack the pace and died after just 8 months.

I've just ordered a 640m which is a bit smaller than the 6400 as size isnt important to me (thats what I tell the wife before anyone else says it) I've chosen dell again as the present machine has been a real work horse, i've dropped it, its been through numerous airport baggage systems, left it On, packed in the case where it got really hot and it still works!

I hope the new one bahaves as well as this one.

Rather than buying new have you considered a refurb ? Probably save a load of money. I've had a few from this site for work and they've been great :
