Default Broadband....is anything over 1mb needed?

At present i have 1mb BB with Virgin.......too lazy to move unless there is much to be had from higherspeed services....so is there? maybe a dumb question! but is there diminishing returns at higher speeds or will 2mb (or 4) be twice as fast, simple as that?

2mb = 2x faster 4mb = 4x faster. If all you do is surf and not much more. Then 1Mb is fine.
But it also depends if your local BT exchange will allow you to connect quicker. I am looking at 8mb, but doing a check shows I can only connect up-to 5.5mb.

Depends on the webpage - if its got lots of graphics and flash to download then yes. Maybe not exactly twice as fast but definetly faster. However Id say that unless you download large files there is no point in going over 1mbit.

Simon.

Take a look at ADSL Max -

£25.99 a month, free connection if you migrate from another isp.

Web pages don't open any quicker, but for downloads it's superb.

In theory, the 1mb looks good, so does the 8mb, in practice these are the maximum speeds available, if the DSLAM that your on has alot of users, you will be sharing the bandwidth more so you will be getting less. This happens mainly on large exchanges in built up area's with a high concentration of ADSL users.
