Best Place for a new PC...ebay?
I need a new and faster PC from my home office. Just a system (i have monitor, etc, etc and OS)
Seems PC world is ok priced, places like Scan and quite cheap and ebay has some VERY cheap stuff from sellers of systems (not 2nd hand stuff)
Is that a good idea? Budget is around £600 but seems ebay has plenty under £400?

I would probably look at Dell. If you must go retail then Id suggest eMachine system units from PCWorld for a number of good reasons.

I spec'd a good PC for relatives off the Dell website for under £600 and then set it up for them when it turned up and it was a very good machine for the money. Only problem is you will get a monitor thrown in with it but at £600 just keep it as a spare or bung it on ebay!

Dell are a good bet - their prices are very good to the point where theyve killed off a lot of the competition.
If you'd rather not buy from a big multinational firm then www.meshcomputers.com are extremely good - theyre forever winning awards, prices are very good for the specs.
Ive bought from them a few times, and service and backup has always been excellent too - found a dead pixel on the monitor after a couple of years - called Mesh and a brand new monitor was delivered the following morning.
Theyre a UK firm too.

Either Dell or tbh, Novatech do some really good builds. I've always got my components from them, and built my own. However, I hear good things about their systems. (plus of course, they have a warrantee )
The build your own option is good too - again novatech do bundled boards (all bits included), cases, drives etc. Can be a bit of a larf

i did things a little different and bought all the main parts from ebay to build myself.
saved myself quite a bit of cash TBH
but i also ended up "blinging" the thing up in true "feature" creep fashion
and its now running rounded cables with coloured lights all over the shop and a side window
need a new GFX card now TBH

As you already have a PC you would get a great spec with your budget if you just upgraded via a motherboard bundle.
Something like (the last one on the list):
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/bundles.html
