Default Internet connection problem

Guys,
Having a strange problem with my laptop.
Wireless connection all ok. Connects to router and other pc's on the network.
Messenger works fine, so it has an internet connection.
However, IE won't connect to the internet.
I'm obviously missing something but can't work it out for the life of me...
Thanks for your help.
Simon.

Simon.
Have you checked your I.E LAN connection settings?

I have mine set to 'Automatically Detect'.

Can be found by doing this:

Left click 'Tools', 'Internet options', 'Connections' TAB, 'LAN Settings' Button.
Check the box next to 'Automatically detect settings'.

Do a full scan with adaware, spybot etc
Does it find any bho's?
Any proxies set up?
Check out activex running within IE (you don't mention what os your running)

You have all your updates (ms, av and as) right!!!?!
Loaded any software in the last few days?
Check the event viewer, and monitor high useage services in memory (task manager)
You could use one of the other pc's to download spybot etc with new updates, install and do full scan.
Hope that helps

Oh, backup everything you don't wanna lose, NOW!

I ended up doing a system restore as it was winding me up- or to be more accurate my daughters were as its their laptop.

All seems fine now. they say IE just stopped connecting last week, although Kazaa (more than likely the cause) and MSN still worked.

Thanks for your help. Problem sorted- hopefully permenantly!

Kazaa!!!! I hope you've removed it? Apparrently the phonographic industry are suing individuals for sharing music.

Besides if it's not Kazaa lite, then it will be riddled with spy/adware.

Yep, scary stuff. The kids laptop doesn't share what's in the shared folder though, if that makes sense

Yep it makes sense. But it may not stop people from tracing who is downloading it . Not trying to lecture , but just be careful.
