I thought XP has the "remote assistance" built in for that sort of thing. Where you can set-up the user to remotley access your PC.

Yes, but that's for 'invitation', isn't it?

I can for the place on xp to enable 'remote access' via my computer and then enabling under the firewall, but I still cant acces the other pc in the workgroup.

Dave, just locally at the moment.

I've tried the microsoft link detailed in another post, but I could not connect.

Mark

PS, I don't want to use any of these online browsing services, but thanks all the same.

In which case I use remote desktop from my study pc to the media pc in the lounge. There are a few reasons why you might not be able to connect - what error message did you get

it could be firewall, or the fact the service is disable, You can restrict to only specific users, but the big one is you cannot connect if the pc is already logged on. XP only supports one user at a time so if you are logged on to the pc at the desk then you cannot remote at the same time. This is an official patch that will enable you to do this. The reason why XP does not support it is because XP is a one user licence and therefore 2 connections are not allowed. XP SP 2 did at one stage allow multiple connections but was removed before it was released. The patch users some of these interim files.

post the error msg and we will help
