Default iMac repairs in south east

Hello

My mate has an iMac, and the CD-RW drive is knackered (wont read or write). Does anyone know somewhere in the Windsor/Maidenhead/Bracknell area (or somewhere close) that does repairs that wont charge the earth to replace it ?

I just bought a LG external USB2.0 cdrw/dvdrw/dvd ram drive from Dabs for £40 + vat. Probably cheaper than repairing......

Macs still cost a wedge to repair sadly

I'm inclined to agree, labour rates of £45 per hour at cheapest so go external unless you hvae to.

If you do get stuck let me know and I can give you number of our Apple repair people who'll collect and drop off once done but turn around will depand on parts.

Or rip it apart and fix it yourself -

www.xlr8yourmac.com

Infinitely more fun, I should know, 1 x MacMini, 1 x eMac and a 17" FP iMac later.

And yes before the smart comments start they are all still working and enjoying their extended lives . . . .

Its virtually impossible to legally by new parts as they are only avialable to an Apple authorised repoar agent.

Tomorrow I'll post up the number for MasterCare who should be able to help you

Thanks

As per my original post

Xlr8mac.com lists many compatible parts along with the respective hardware users have had success with.

I cannot remember the exact build no. of Tiger but there is no longer any issue with using a recent Pioneer 109 DVD-RW drive natively within iTunes or iMovie/iDVD etc....

So to confirm a £25 OEM pioneer drive will work quite happily in a mac using Tiger 10.4.5 ! Something I was very happy about as my original Apple superdrive had died after 12 months.
