Quick Sony PSP question....
I know the disc format on the PSP is called UMD....
UMD DISCS
Can you buy "blank" UMD's and put your own content on them eg. burn them using the inner ridge of a typical DVD burner's tray ?
If so, will an unmodified PSP play the video content on the UMD disc?
ALTERNATIVE TO UMD
If not a UMD, could I get the video footage into the machine via one of its other input devices eg. a memory stick ?

Nope. If SONY alllowed this then it would open the flood gates on pirated games etc...
Answer to question 2:
Yes you can. Either via the USB port and a suitable cable connected up-to your PC. Or a suitable Memory Card reader.
The video footage must be in MP4 format and saved in the correct folder you have set-up on your Memory card.

Thanks guys.
I've been asked to evaluate it for use as a possible sales tool - to playback DVD content in the boadroom for example.
Normally we'd use a laptop playing a DVD disc we created.
What we'd need to do is try and find a way to put the DVD image onto the PSP via memory sticks, but this seems unlikely given the size of the DVD image, circa 4GB

Has anyone on here go a UMD movie disc for their PSP ? Just wondering if it uses a menu system at the start of the movie, in a similar style to when you watch a DVD movie at home on your TV.
eg. does the movie start like a normal DVD where you can select chapters, extras, commentaries ?

Sorry to keep on but can you answer this - you say a DVD movie can be shrunk down and played on the PSP...
Just as important for me is the ability to have the DVD discs menu system in-tact. eg. once its on the PSP via the memory stick, can you select scenes, chapters, etc ? (you mention a UMD movie does, but can you get the same features from a memory stick version)

ok
So even on a PSP using hacked firmware, can you create custom UMD discs ?
Can the PSP natively play video from memory sticks, or does this need a firmware hack also ?

You cannot create custom UMD discs because you cannot buy blank discs, the PSP plays video files in the MP4 format like an IPOD video you don't need a hacked fimware.

I'll get round to upgrading at some point.....

Mogsi, why don't you see if you can blag yourself a copy of Nero Recode 7 ? I tried PSP9 but found it very slow (although it is free). You can download a demo from the Nero web site.
Spectrum, how about using a portable DVD player ?
