i have never used xp home but use xp pro all the time, does home support NTFS formatted drives, if not i bet its this.

in pro you formatted the drive as NTFS and now home wont read it.

if home does support NTFS then im not sure

found nothing wholley conclusive on the Web, the following page.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/h...choosing2.mspx

says that XP home doesnt support the Encryted File System.
So i suppose if this was used on your XP Pro disc then XP Home wouldnt be able to recognise it.

Other than installed XP Pro, or installing the drive in another XP Pro not sure how else you'll get at the data.

just found this product on the net, probably not the only one but first i came across

http://www.computing.co.uk/personal-...nager-personal

self booting, with file manager, will read any HDD connected, as it may be a problem with the boot record, but even if it is this program will still try to read the drive to recoved data.

if you created the second disk as a dynamic disk not a normal disk it will not be readable by anything but Win2kPro, Win2k server, XP Pro and 2003 Server

Its possible this is the problem

just checked the drive using a program called R-Studio and it shows my main OS drive being NTFS/HPFS and my secondary drive being FAT32 (LBA), now I presune this is where the problem lies would it read the drive if I installed XP home using the FAT32 file system on my main drive ???

Ahhh.. I have had something like this in the past. It was due to the BIOS reading the DISK wrong at powerup. I.E the disk was formatted as either FAT32 or NTFS in CHS mode and when I swapped the disk around the BIOS re-read the DISK mode as LBA mode, which confused windows. You could try going in the BIOS and setting this mode manually to CHS mode to see if can then be read.
