Right, we have two pc's, networked, but not all programmes are on both machines, 'if' we bought an external hard drive, could we 'drop' the programmes on it, and then 'drop' them onto the second pc..??

Like i said, not that clever with this stuff.... so please keep the answers understandable...

Cheers

Most programs won't work if you just do that, expecially Microsoft ones.

The majority copy files into windows system directories and add entries to the registry when they are initially installed, and so you can't just copy the application directory and expect it work.

Is there any reason why you can't use the original CDs to install them on the second PC?

Usually at the beginning of the set up process it gives you the choice of ticking/unticking what you want to install.I recently installed frontpage without word/excell etc off office xp.

Yep. When asked if you want a 'full' or 'custom install'. Go for the 'Custom Install' then only leave/tick the programs from the Microsoft Office disk you want to install.
