Fairly powerfull laptop (non widescreen)
looking for some powerfull, high spec laptops for work but all the high end ones seem to be widescreen, looking for the old style, any ideas...?

Why not a widescreen. I've been using one for a while now (Dell), and I wouldn't want to go back to a normal screen now.
Anyway Dell make quite nice (speedy) laptops with a 15.4" screen. For example....
