360 v PC

360 v PC
Was always a pc gamer and didnt like consoles but since getting an Xbox and latterley a 360 I really cannot see the point of ninja pc's, was having a debate with a pc zealot at work today, mainly cos it avoids doing any actual work but I quite enjoy it, its like a middle aged (well nearly) version of the C64 v Spectrum Jihad in school, I was a moderate Commodore owner but also later converted to Sinclair (both at the same time)
Apparently nothing will compete with a top end pc running two 500 quid graphics cards, no **** but whats the point, 1500 quid plus and does it really look any better than a 300 quid console ?
Is pc gaming going to be a dead duck.
Come on, bring it on, it it ill be like Alaistair Huges smacked me for Dissing the Dragon 32 the sad nobber, oh and saying he looked like Mel Smith didnt help either.
Yes, I have issues.

The only advantage is that the pc is always uptodate (if you've got a bottomless pit of cash) where as the 360 is here for the next 5 years.
The new x1900 ati gfx features the same 48bit processing as the 360 however the 360 isnt hampered by system resources, so who knows.
Bottomline is the pc will always be better but if you define power per £ then obviously the 360 wins hands down

Many PC gamers don't like the 1st person games on consoles, because they suck without the keyboard and mouse.
Complex games like flight sims and Warcraft are also much better suited to the PC.

Consoles will always win from a bang per buck point of view.
And of course, when they are brand new they look even better value for money.
As Kiwi said, FPS generally suck on consoles due to the limited controls.

Never had a prob with FPS on the Xbox is the controls are done well eg. Halo, Half Life etc.
Fact is some people are far too geeky and **** for their own good and thus will side with the PC.

If all you do is play games then a 360 is a good option, however a pc is so much more flexible. If I just wanted a games machine then I'd stick with the 360, however seeing as I use the pc for more than just gaming, I bought myself a ninja rig as well. Having a 360 and a ninja pc is definitely the way forward

I played Halo 1 through to the end (quite enjoyed that one), but never got very far into Halo2. I just got bored with it very quickly. I didn't know you could get half life on the consoles?
After playing the quality fps games on the pc (HL2, F.e.a.r etc), every one I've played on the consoles has felt inferior. Hopefully that might change with "Gears of war"...

Nothing to do with that. In fact it could be said that you are being geeky and **** about the consoles

I'm just not into games as much as you are I guess. Half Life 2 on the xbox was fantastic IMHO. I'm sure as good or better on the PC. same game just the gfx
far cry is menat to be better on the Xbox due to the extras they put in. better gameplay.

Can't imagine playing Command & Conquer without a mouse - I tried it on the PS1 using the controller and it was awful - probably why the later games in the series haven't appeared on the consoles.

Don't forget the added 'convienience' of also playing on a console, it's nice to chill out on the sofa, as opposed to sitting at a desk with a keyboard & mouse, I spend all day doing that......

have played many many years of FPS games.
trying to play FPS on the 360 is like trying to use a joystick to control your windows mouse, f%$£%£ awful.
racing games and shootem up/beat em up/football etc then the console is king.

I'd like a 360 for the convinience (ie I upgraded my pc, but it still slows on 1 player COD2) Although I did play COD2 online on the xbox 360 the other day and it was messing around (server probs)
I thought you could use the keyboard and mouse on the 360??
I was thinking..
wireless keyboard and mouse, sat in arm chair, keyboard on lap, mouse on chair arm
I agree that FPS have to be using the mouse and keyboard (and I used to be anti pc)

And on top of it all, you can edit videos, burn/copy DVD's, plug in musical instruments and use sequencing, 3D design and rendering, CAD, Printing and editing photos, P2P, Online Banking.
The expensive graphics cards are not expensive by professional 3D design standards e.g. Wildcat series and NVIDIA and ATI pro cards.

Iain - does the "older" GTR have online racing? I've been on the website but unless I'm blind then I can't see if it is or not.
seen it for £11.99 so quite tempted.
I quite enjoy PGR3 but I miss the strategic element of pit stops that you get with GT4...

Gonna download the demo's - I know Legends is the newer title but I just prefer more modern cars.

I've got both GTR and GT legends. GT Legends is a much better game imo. I've not noticed any bugs in gtr, but then again I've spent most of my time playing legends so I might not have discovered them...
I got mine in a double pack (gtr and legends) from pc world for £14.99 a few months back. I think they may have priced it wrong but I wasn't complaining
