Default Ferrari Laptops - Cheapest Place to buy?

I'm hoping someone may be able to help. I now live in Spain but am coming back for a few weeks this weekend. I'm in desparate need for a new laptop and have decided to go for the Ferrari 4002 WLMi. I want to buy in the UK as it's too much hassle over here with waiting and then hoping everything is formatted ok. Prices here seem to vary wildly for some reason which makes me feel a bit uneasy...

I've found a special offer at shopacer.co.uk but their customer service already seems crap and I've not bought anything yet (not answering emails, welcoming you to online chat then just disappearing without answering the question put to them etc.)

I'm looking therefore to beat the price of £850 inc vat which also includes a free GPRS network card (Vodafone).

Any suggestions please?

Many thanks,

Russ

Bugger. I'm really loathed to give a company with bad customer service my hard earned but don't want to bite my nose to spite my face on this one...

Also, its made by Acer.

Had 2 Acer laptops - 1 we bought out of ignorance and I ended up beating it to do death with a hammer. The other was forced upon us by the insurance company when our Dell laptop was stolen.

That is OK but the battery lasted 18 months. We sent the machine back to ACER UK for repair when it stopped working. All they did was replace the PSU adapter and returned it to us. The adapter was the original one (charged us £30) and the battery was still dead. Sent the machine back again and they kept it for best part of 2 months waiting for the battery to arrive. Total cost £110

I eventually lost it with them, threatened them with trading standards and demanded the machine and a full refund. The formal complaint was ignored and the laptop turned up a week later without being touched.

Needless to say I would not buy another ACER irrespective of a Ferrari badge.

One of the guys at work bought an ACER pda from Expansys but the battery packed in after 12 months. Still theyve agreed to collect it, repair or replace it FOC and then send it back. However hes not very impressed it broke so soon (its not heavily used).

Hmmmm. Not good. That said, I had a Sony Vaio as my last laptop and was really disappointed with that through problem after problem yet thought Sony gear was bullet proof beforehand?

I really only intend using my Ferrari wirelessly here in Spain on the roof terrace during the summer months and will have it plugged in most of the time for power anyway. It's just a bugger if I need to claim under warranty given my location...

Point of interest - ebuyer never answered my email enquiries either so ended up paying £20 and going to Technoworld who chuck in a free Vodafone datacard as well...

Cheers for all the help and comments - you'll probably see a new thread soon about my problems with the laptop....

Are these laptops the same as the normal Acer ones buy painted red with the Ferrari badge on? I guess they double the price or something for the paint and badge?

I meant to say, their isnt anything special about these except the way they look. You can save yourself a few quid by buying an ordinary looking one!

Having said that, if youre anything like me, looks are a big part of any gadget, which is why I buy over-priced Alienware stuff!

Someone told me they were faster

You're right of course, I could have a bog standard one for a lot less but I love all the gimmicky gadgets and the carbon reminds me of my old Type R bonnet - RIP
