running 3-in-1 fax/printer/copier from 2 PC's?
Hi there,
I need to set up two PC's to use one Brother printer/copier/scanner machine....could anyone explain how to do this as I've got no idea?
Thanks,
Brian

No, they're separate. One runs wireless broadband from the other one though if that makes a difference?

I have an HP multi-jobby networked to a broadband router. Works easily with my 2 PCs and a doddle to setup.
Other than that, AFAIK you get into the realms of printer sharing which makes it all the more complex and if I'm not mistaken means leaving both PCs on if you want to print.

Not sure by what you have said so far how the pc's are connected and setup.
or how au fait you are at setting up pc's n networking
Scenario could be :-
1) yours sounds like, 1 pc connects to t'intent (usb modem or adsl router) and has a wireless card in it, using ICS (internet sharing), to the other pc also with a wireless card ??
Connect and configure the printer to pc1, also share the printer for the other pc to use , also installing the printer drivers on pc2
downside both pc's need to be on, file sharing needs configuring
2) 2 pc's connect to a broadband router for t'internet, ( wired or wireless),
obtain a print server, n connect it to router (wired), install the printer software on both pc's.no need to share printer.
upside:u can send print jobs to printer at any time from both pc's , they just Q up.
downside: configure your router with a reserved ip address if possible
3) obtain a usb printer switch and couple extra usb print cables.
install printer software on both pc's.
upside : easy install, the other pc does not have to be on.
downside : more cables, the pc's would both have to be near printer.

Lol, I'm not sure - I have a wireless router on one computer, and then have 2 wireless modems on other computers upstairs. I can't file share between computers so presumed that wasn't a network?
