The only ones I have come across are Red Hat and SuSe.
Red Hat was very simple to install.

I've installed a couple of versions of Suse without any problems.

Next job is to try installing Xebian on my old xbox!

You were lucky. I first came to install SuSe back in 1998 and it took 3 attempts to get it right.
Anyway I now have a Cheap IBM RS600 44P Model170 and AIX 5.3 (IBM UNIX) to play with now.

Anyone know why, when it is possible to dual boot with different version of Windows, I am struggling to dual boot with two different distributions of Linux?

Do you mean dual boot two different versions of Windows together, or Windows plus Linux? Both are possible. The rules are: always install the oldest version of Windows first, and always install Windows before Linux. Ive had a triple boot running before: Windows 2000, Mandrake and Suse.

Just installed Ubuntu on an old cobbled-together PC and installed very easily. Only can't seem to get my wireless card working. And for some reason openoffice 2 didn't install.

Hopefully once I get either an ethernet cable or some forum advice it'll be sorted.

Now I'm a complete (Linux ) virgin, so I was really impressed with things, particularly compared to Windows which I have installed 5 times over the last 2 weeks Pity WinXP can't be as easy!

That's what I'm after - I want to dual boot between two different Linux distributions - did you have to manually edit your Linux Loader config file or did it do it for you automatically?

I like Suse 10 because its got a bit more spit and polish and more professional than the others it would seem. Ubuntu is quite a good distro too, but for my liking it just seems a bit clunky

Run SUSE 10 at home and work, but I like Ubuntu as you can boot from CD and hence not affect your existing boot disk image.

Depends on the distro. SUSE is good at recognising the presence of another distro, but most others aren't. SUSE will overwrite the existing GRUB with a new version, but it will incorporate the old details. BUT - you need to make sure you set this up correctly during the install otherwise it will be back to manually editing GRUB. But then manually editing GRUB is a common pastime in Linux anyway. After loading the first distro, print out the menu.lst file so you know how it has everything set, then you are ready to add it to the second distro version if necessary.

I'd advise you to set up your partitions before you start though, with something like Partition Magic. I used a common /home mount point for the two distros, but (obviously) different / mount points for each distro.

Most distro's have a live CD which the version of Ubuntu you have, try Knoppix as thats the daddy of the live CD distros

Tried RedHat9 but fell in love with Mandrake 10 that was the last distro that i used before switching to my mac
