Anyone good with Norton ghost / windows XP
Hello,
We have to set up identical machines to send out (and i mean 100% identical). The hardware is exactly the same, and the installation needs to be the same. They are SATA drives.
We've used Norton Ghost 2003 to make a copy of one, and apply to the others.
However, it wont start. Just as the windows logo comes on the pc goes off (not reset). Trying to start in safe mode, it loads lots of the drivers and then goes off after MUP.SYS.
Anyone know best course of action?
Regards,
Andy

If you put the master SATA drive in the second machine will it boot ? If this works try a drive clone in Ghost. Are you sure both machine IDE setup is identical in the bios ?
Arrrgh. Now i find out information i wasn't given before.
My techie now tells me he did the original image off an IDE drive.
Well I can see why that doesn't work then
And now that machine has gone out.

If I can get hold of the XP Embedded target designer, we are going to use xp embedded - as our boxes don't need the shell or anything anyway.

I have had this before.
Make sure once the ghost copy has finished you turn the PC off and disconnect the "Source" disk. Then boot the PC up. Do not let the PC boot up with both disks connected after the ghost has completed.
I use to work for a PC manufacturer and use to build many of the same PC's and also used ghost to copy each disk from a "master" image and had the same problem as you. From what I can remember it was something to do with the drive lettering causing the problem.
