Question Second Backup Hard Drive

I have a 200GB SATA drive that has previously failed resulting in a loss of all my data. It has been up and running again for a few months with no problems but I have a lot of important programmes and data on my computer that I couldn't tollerate losing.

I envisage an external USB backup drive to get around this problem. I never use more than 100GB of the 200GB available and if I did the last 100GB would be junk (**** ) that I don't need. I therefore think a 100GB backup drive would be more than enough. Can anyone recommend a really cheap and cheerful drive that would acheive this purpose. Also how would I manage the back up process. I guess ideally I'd like the drive to be taking a copy of 85% of the folders on my main HD once a week. Is it easy to set this up?

Can you add a second SATA drive and use it in RAID1 so that both drives always carry the same data so if one fails the other will still have up to date same data? Ideally you want 2 drives the same size or the second one big enough to hold all the data from the original drive. I use a pair of WD 160gb SATA drives in RAID 1 no problems at all.

Andy.

You could always buy an external Maxtor One Touch.

As the name suggests, it supports one touch backups. Press the button and let it do it's thing

I have a 120 gig main drive and a 80 gig secondary , I then use windows xp "transfer files and settings " and use the secondary drive to store the back up folder
