Default Laptop Display

Evening all. Does anybody know how I can turn off the what seems to be a battery saving feature on my lappy. Basically my screen is nice and bright when running on 240 volt but when I run on battery its very dim.Ive tried all the usual suspects in control panel but cant seem to find it. To make matters worse for some reason the display is now dimming when lappy is powered up and bright when running on battery!! Its a compaq running windows xp.

Thanks in advance for replies
Simon.

Click Start, click into control panel and then select power option (batter symbol). You can also normally change it by clicking on the bat/ac symbol in the bottom right corner, or there is normally a controls to adjust brightness on the keyboard.

go into the bios when you boot up.

[Esc] or F12 or F2 - it'll say.

there'll be a ACPI power save section.

your dim screen on battery might be in there.

Hi I have a Toshiba and that has its own "Toshiba power setting icon" which overrides the control panels powers settings

Does the Compaq have a similar icon?

What you're looking for is the blue "2nd function" keys on the keyboard - there should be a way to step the brightness up by holding down the "FN" key and pressing the adjustment key. Typically this is just a blue arrow pointing up (IIRC on Compaqs its F8).
