Default Scan - post sales service query?

Just wondered what peoples experiences have been - thinking about using them.

I ordered a large quantity of self build components from them with next day delivery.

One of the components was out of stock, they then held back the order without informing me.

So after 3 days, I contacted them. All I got was an e-note saying do I want to remove the item or swap it.

I've had delivery problems and return problems waited 2 months and numerous phone calls to get a refund, the last thing was they sent me a different model hard drive than I had ordered hoping I wouldn’t notice,

Also had the same problem as lightning101

but some things are very cheap and delivery is fast when things go OK

I used them just before Christmas and I couldn't fault their service. The whole delivery came in one delivery, but one component (part of the motherboard) was missing - not something I would expect them to check. I filled in their query form mid-afternoon Wednesday and it was with me the next day. Result!

Having said all that, the motherboard, having worked for long enough to install XP SP2 then stopped. I reported the fault just after Christmas and haven't heard anything back yet.

www.aria.co.uk have the best customer service and delivery times of any company I've used so far. And I have used nearly everyone mentioned on this board.

They just don't have the same stock levels as ebuyer or scan

One of the reasons scan is cheap is that they save money by having naff after sales support. They're ok if the items are in stock, and you don't have to return anything, but I've had problems with them in the past when trying to return stuff / get a refund...

Well i will never ever use Scan again. Last time I used them for a motherboard, they sent me a returned one. How do I know? Maybe something to do with the cut wires on the CPU fan and dirty fingermarks all over the opened bag.

Then the faulty memory, they said it wasnt faulty. It was. I proved it by swapping it out for a known good stick. So I RMA'd it. they "tested" it and I never heard back from them after they admitted it was screwed. By this time I just wanted out ! so I just sent the entire lot back and got it refunded minus £10 "stocking charge".

They really are ****, like ebuyer. Its the old saying, buy it cheap, buy it twice

I've always found Scan to be excellent - good progress emails etc.

Never had to send anything back though.....

Absolutely. But an outstanding RMA process would no doubt spell the end for any hardware e-tailer that's trying to compete with (e.g.) ebuyer prices as the margins just arn't there to delight the customers with problems.

Aria make enough profit on their shipping to cover sending the same order out twice so I should imagine their returns process would run sweetly.

Buy a PC from ginger6 and at their prices, don't expect much support.
Buy the same system from alienware (50% margin) and should your PSU pop, they will send a techie out to walk over hot coals to your house and fix the damn thing.

You seldom get your cake and eat it.

Just a thought Alex, don't you know anyone with a VIP account? One of the few outstanding IT companies IMO

You mean the above - never heard of them before.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone outside of work - and work wise we deal with Computer Centre.

Ordered some stuff on Monday, all in-stock.

Wednesday get email asking for copy of driving licence or passport etc. to confirm who I was.

Faxed it to them straight away.

Been away, so check email today, and yesterday they've said the mobo is out of stock. WTF?

I've changed to another one, and asked them to ship for Saturday am delivery - cost a bundle more, but I want it all for the weekend (hence ordering it Monday and picking in stock items).

Not great service so far, but they did keep me up to date with emails...

I've not had experience with their RMA procedure, hopefully I won't need to.

Great prices though!
