Default Can 4 pair patch cable be used for telephone??

I'm in the middle of networking the bungalow but have a problem in doing the telephone side of things.

What pins / colours should go from the BT splitter in the attic to which pins on the Telephone plug. The confusion has arrisen from using network cable for the telephone install and the colours the instructions tell me to use are different to that of the cable.

I could probably work it out or make up my own colour scheme but would like some advise to do it "proper like"

Only need 4 wires / colours but which way round in the plug end.

theoretically as line as the wires are run identically , you should be fine .. ie blue to 'pin' 5 ,.. blue /white to '2' and so on...

The little jack plug I've got to crimp the wires into has no "order" on it.
That's the sticky bit

Looking at which end of the plug and which way up.

B&Q jack plugs..... no instructions

Plenty of diagrams with the Network kit but that's alll RJ45 based, which is no help.

Probably teh B&Q kit for DIYers that has confused you.

Just take the cover off the master phone socket (or any existing slave that is not a diy type ) and tap in from behind there like you do on the back of an RJ45 network socket, no need to use any plugs.

Just need two wires, connected to terminals labelled on the PCB as 5 and 2. on both ends (the other 4 terminals are not needed - used for switchboards).

Fuzz.

You should use RJ45 face plates for the phones then use a 'secondary' RJ45 - BT style adaptor, then connect from your master socket to the patch panel.

Wiring should be as follows:

Code:
RJ45 Socket RJ45 Plug BT Socket
1 1 4 Recall - if wired
2 2 - Ring - Not connected
3 3 6
4 4 2 B leg
5 5 5 A leg
6 6 1
7 7 -
8 8 -

'secondary' RJ45 - BT style adaptor

Thought that might have been the case, but never seen one!
Each face plate has two sockets so I guess one will be Network, one will be phone.
Still need a filter somewhere though.
Plan was to put my Hub / Switch / Wireless router in the loft (hopefully better coverage of the whole bungalow up there) and direct all network cables to it.
Incoming phone line junction box (not a plug type, just cable ends and screws) is up there too with a plenty of phone cables streaming from it.
Bought a wall socket and two plugs from B&Q expecting to be able to utilise the patch cable for this last bit but the colours it said to connect into the wall socket were not in the patch cable, hence confusion..
I'll look at it again in a mo now I've had some food and the paint is drying nicely in the AV room..

That 16mm2 armour we spoke about.... what should I do with the grey lead
Currently using it as earth to supplement the armour earth, but suspect that's not "to regs"

Wireless seems to be working and it looks like it was a good move moving it to the attic, Signal improved lots.

Now time to test LAN
