Any Linux "suse" security bods i have a QQQ please!
I'm trying to run nmap on a suse 10 build and although my user acc has root, nmap won't run as root...
I'm new to linux so fumbling a little trying to find out why...
anyone got any experience please...

Have you checked the permissions on the file(s) your trying to execute? What Owner and Group rights are currently set-up?
Normally for 'root' to run anything then you need at least 'X' = eXecute on user and/or group or even other.

How was it installed, from a package? It ought to have mode 755. Although it may be owned and grouped for root anyone can run it, just some features require root privs.
