Default Xbox 360 connecting to a monitor for HD?

Is such a thing possible as to connect the 360 up to a TFT monitor to get HD output?
If a monitor can output at a higher res than HD then surely it's possible?

Or am I being completely stupid?

You can get a Joytech one, although getting one may prove difficult unless you like paying too much for things on eBay.

Or just order it from LikSang or PlayAsia for £24-30.

Defo worth doing too....
I have my 360 hooked up to my Dell 2005fpw (20in widescreen lcd) and it does look the dogs!!!
I managed to source the original MS vga cable just after launch date and the shop had two in stock at the time and I'm sorry I never bought the second one as they are going for stupid money on Ebay!!

Good luck

Here's one for you all..

Got a premium pack with HD cable but i've only got HDMI slots on the back of my TV and not the 5 audio sockets that come with the HD cable. Is there an adapter that takes the 5 sockets and converts them to a HDMI plug???

Got an Xbox and can't play it

I've got 3 but to run the HD i thought you needed to use the 2 audio cables and 3 RGB cables (well thats what it shows in the instructions)

So if i connect it via the 2 audio and 1 video through the scart, will i still get true Hi Def????

Thanks

The 3 RGB cables, just to confuse things, aren't actually RGB... they are component video leads. The 3 leads are actually Y-BY-RY, long story, Google it.

With the standard lead you have in the premium pack you need to either have 'component video inputs' (sounds like you haven't) or just use the bog standard yellow (composite) lead for pictures now (not great picture, but ok)
and upgrade to either a proper RGB scart lead or 'advanced av pack', but these are as rare as the consoles at the min.

Yellow in the scart adaptor won't give you RGB/Component/HD quality, only composite, so even if you use the supplied scart plug the picture will still be composite.

I don't have an HDMI equipped TV yet, soon, so I'm not sure how you go from Component to HDMI.

Hmmm unpacked it all, got to the power supply and power cable and it's got a european plug on the end of it?!
Haven't got a travel adaptor in the house either
Can I just cut the plug off the end and wire it to a UK plug or will I blow the house up?

Ok thanks mate,

I have found the 3 component y by ry video inputs but i have no component audio inputs (only audio out)

I've also been looking and i can't find anything that goes from component to HDMI

I don't know who to blame! Microsoft for supplying a poxy lead with no real HDMI or Pioneer for not having enough component sockets, I've got bloody 5 inputs and can't use them

Kettle lead goes straight into it's base so don't know.
It's just like a standard PC power lead but theres a groove in the 360 lead which corresonds to a 'lip' in the main 360 power block.

Nothing exists that converts component to HDMI YET.... Component is Analogue and HDMI is digital.

Shaun.

The "HD" term dont mean diddly squat at the moment....as this is not a recognised signed up standard. In this country it seems to mean (for TV's) that it is at least 720 lines and has either a HDMI or DVI (which is HDCP compliant). Whereas in reality Hi-Def is really classed as being true 1080 by others...... it's a very imature standard if you ask me.

In any case...... component is more common than sets with HDMI (these are very few in terms of numbers Vs Component) so there is one of your answers, but Microsoft have stated they will produce a HDMI output as and when the market dictates.

Regards,
Shaun.

I've sorted it for now until microsoft do a HDMI cable.

I've run the components through the tv and the sound through the DVD cinema system, which is probably better anyway

Same as me m8, would prefer sound through tv for ease of use.

I have my component through the tv and sound in optical through the stereo, sounds good I must admit.

Also now I can browse my music and pictures through the dashbox on the tv, clever stuff.

Scott, I'm fairly sure if you're running the premium RGB (Component) cables into the component video sockets on your tv then it's running in HD mode, forget HDMI for now.

I just brought a 52" Toshiba HD rear projector for £1399 with 9 months on the drip, also has an HDMI socket so it'll be interesting to compare real scart RGB,component video and HDMI.

I know rear projection is generally a bit frowned upon, but I work all day with Toshiba rear projection and it's leagues beyond the other brands, particuarly the newer DLP screens.
