Cool Seek and ye shall find = XBox 360 Core @ Currys

Just a quick note.

Spent 45 mins early evening being laughed at in Game, Game Station, HMV PC World etc...

Walked into Currys (Kings Lynn, Norfolk) to look at the 52" DLP TV ( v. nice too ) what do I spy on the way out but a rubbishy A4 sign saying XBox 360 core £209.99 in stock or for Core + Game (PGR or Perfect Zero) + Wireless controller £284.99

I'll take a pack plus another game and a mem card please.

certainly sir, no problem

weird, but goes to show they are out there just keep looking . . .

looks like you can get cores with a little searching nowdays.

I'm hanging in for my Premium because I think MS are scamming ppl into buying the core and the upgrades rather than waiting on the Premium that loses them more $$$$

If you've got a plasma with VGA input you can get an HD VGA cable from Joytech (includes the fibre optic for 5.1 too) for 14.99..............

Possibly, but if you are forced to buy off ebay like I was the core is actually better value. I paid £245 for a brand new sealed 360 (from Germany). Add a hard drive and that gets to £315.

I don't care about wireless controllers, they have been around for years anyway, and I've even gone back from a wireless mouse to a wired mouse because I can't be bothered with the battery charging.

The media remote is useless because I'll never use it (cutdown version anyway) and with £8000 worth of stereo/home theatre I won't be using an Xbox for my music etc.

And I don't have an HD set yet so the cable is useless. So really the Core system is quite good for me. Compared to a mate who spent £600 on the Premium Pack with 2 games it is anyway.

How does that work? I have a plasma that supposedly supports resolutions like 1024x768 but it isn't an HD ready TV.

Does that mean if I use the VGA input I'll get the similar resolutions to HD?

My saving grace is that I work offshore, so out of the next 6 weeks I'm only home for 2 of them.so I'm willing to just wait on my SHAMAZON order now, I'm just not willing to pay over the odds for a console that's going to be easy to pick up in most shops by Feb/March. That might have been differn't if I was home all that time though

Your plasma will just downstream the signal to its native res, will still look very nice and much better than scart

Agreed, that's me off to kill my backorder with Virgin.

20 GB was always closer to 13GB so what's that going to do when you think of HD source material.

cheers Kiwi !

Will try tomorrow, it gives you the option of changing where it is downloaded to so it probably does. Someone will figure it out anyway, whether it is cloning sectors from the original HD to fool the 360.

Had a 360 premium pack on pre-order for a while. Got fed up of waiting and pi$$ed off with the lack of info from M$oft and most retailers, so decided to trawl for a core system instead. Three phone calls later, I found one. Bought a mem card too (no hard drives to be found anywhere). That was over a week ago, so yes, 360s are out there if you look hard enough (best time to find them seems to be Thursdays and Fridays, apparently).

Got the wireless controler, plus an rgb scart cable on the way. Need a hard drive, tho. Any ideas (other than fleabay)???

CHeers

There are a few external HDs on sale on fleabay - all seem to say that they can't be used for dl-ing content or for game saves.

My Premium pack is meant to arrive on Tuesday

Had to surcome to eBay prices although they've settled down over the last few days between 390-410.

Backwards compatibility
Downloading game demos
Ripping mp3 for your own custome soundtracks etc
Custom skins for the dashboard interface
Speeds up some games (load times), as some information can be cached if the hd is present.

1.Not sure I'd play any of the old games anymore
2.Get them free off magazines
3.Use an Ipod anyway, why rip everything again.
4.Not a teenager anymore, dont need a "McFly" dashboard.
5.Not overly bothered about a few seconds here and there.

Sounds like you won't be needing a hard drive then!

Cores are appearing in most shops now, not in any real numbers yet though. Game seem to be getting in a few premiums to, but they only selling them as a 10 game bundle at around £750!!! Though if you stand your ground you can buy this pack and return the games for a refund as it states in their terms and conditions, they just wont like you doing it!

Aye, spotted it in Game Manchester on Saturday. It was about £690 with all games, but then noticed under the sticker it was only the Core pack as well

Well I hope whoever is forced into buying one of those packs, hands over the money, gets the receipt, then whilst not moving an inch hands back the games, gets a refund, then tell everone in the shop they're going somewhere else to buy the games!

I paid £760 for mine and 10 games and a wireless controller, manager said he couldn't take the crap games back, but take them to another store, unopened with receipt and get a refund.
So actually only paid £510 for a premium, 5 good games and the controller.
