Dave,

Try here http://www.mindview.net/Books/TICPP/...ngInCPP2e.html this is where you can get Bruce Eckels 'Thinking in C++' which used to be a best seller in electronic version for free! Eckel is considered somewhat of a guru in the world of C++ so worth downloading and printing. Cant comment only ever really dipped my toe in C++ and that was enough! For any Java devs Eckel also does a free Java one called surprise suprise 'Thinking in Java'

Have fun!

Good reference manuals are things that involve Stroustrup, but I wouldn't recommend them to learn from. Are you interested in doing the raw C++ first, or Windows based with MFC, etc.?

The Scott Meyers books are also pretty useful.

The Deitel series of books are very good for learning from.
