A few years ago we were just happy to get an ADSL 512k connection... lol
Currently stuck on 512k connection but so far from the exchange thats not likely to change, no cable providers eiter
Thankfully, theres a wireless provider installing their gear soon so I should have a 3mb connection, can't wait! Hopefully they will push the speeds up a bit, quite like the sound of a 10mb connection!

Trials are already out for BT and the 8mb, should be around April 06 when its due to be rolled out.
Still your going to be stuck depending on how far away from the exchange you are, this is the restriction on fixed line unfortunately and as most people cant get cable.... (plus a quick note to those cable people that 10megabit broadband is the max you can get, this isnt available all the time so do your downloading whilst your asleep )

Yeah, I can't get 2meg now because I'm 'too far' from the exchange..
I'm inside the M25 ffs - they must have exchanges everywhere.
I bet they'll say the same thing when they introduce 8meg.

As has been well documented here, ntl are in the process of taking over Telewest …. or are they? It would appear that takeover may be reversed to get out of a £100m payment required for a change of contract with the BBC.
The BBC and Telewest are joint partners in UKTV. With ntl taking over Telewest, they would automatically assume Telewest’s role in the partnership. The BBC is seeking the £100m as a payment for a change of the control.
Telewest’s finance director, Neil Smith, has stated that the ntl-Telewest deal could be reversed, meaning Telewest takeover ntl. This would obviously negate the need to pay the BBC £100m.
Both ntl and Telewest are reworking the legal terms of the deal to keep the financial arrangements the same whilst flipping the relationship.
Details of any changes should be announced before the end of the month.
