My pc seems to have a problem. When i turm it on and my desktop screen appears, the system seems to lock up. After about 5 minutes of waiting it seems to unlock and the pc opperates perfectly normally.
Any ideas?

Do start run then type msconfig and have a look at the startup tab to see what is loading on startup. Then run the usual spyware aps or download ms antispyware and see what is reported back. If there are any programs in startup you dont recognise type the name into google and do a search or try disabling them and do a reboot.

Hope this helps a little.

sounds like a device driver or service failing to start to me.

The fact it continues (after the time-out) means it's not terminal.

Look in services - sort by start up type (automatic) and look for any "automatic" ones which have not started.

Look in the event log for any clues.

Try disableing the network card.
