Question wireless - have I got the right thing?

Not so much "have I bought", but "will this do what I want"

OK, I've got a smalll wired network at home, using a 4-port ADSL router.

I'm toying with including my PDA onto the network. So, I've got hold of one of these-
http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSea...=CS11865&N=411

It's a Bluetooth/WAN dongle. It was a choice between this and a boggo Bluetooth dongle (not much difference in price - work paid anyway)

I've also bought an Acer Wi-Fi card for my PDA.

Can I use this Wan dongle as a wireless bridge? (assuming that's what I need)

Will this dongle allow me to connect to my normal network, or do I now need to buy a bridge, such as THIS

To cut through all this technobabble, I'm just trying to incorporate my PDA into my network - I can do this using BT (and ICS), but I want to use WAN......

Hope this makes sense!!

Thanks in advance,

Dan

OK, not a network expert, but I have just set up a wireless lan quite successfully at home.

Its sounds like you've got the following

a) hard wired adsl router connected to a PC
b) PDA with a wireless card
c) a dongle (geat name) thats bluetooth and wi-fi for the back of your PC.

Now, assumptions here, but isn't the dongle used to communicate with a wireless router, as opposed to being used as a bridge from a wi-fi enabled device (ie PDA) to your hard wired ADSL router?

I may be misinterpreting the info about the dongle, but I would guess that you need a wi-fi bridge to recieve the signal from the pda and pass it to the router, something that the dongle isn't able to do - the dongle is just a wi-fi reciever?

If you put a wireless router in, your dongle would then talk to the router, and your PDA could talk to the router using the wi-fi card. This then eliminates the need for your PC to be turned on and acting as a bridge to your hardwired adsl connection?

only suposition, as I said I'm no expert, but logically in my mind it makes some kinda '4 bottles of grolsch' sense.

That's pretty much what I think too
