Asus A8N-SLI and Athlon dual core processor
Thinking of building myself a new PC for Chrimbo, and have heard that this mobo needs a BIOS update before the dual core will work.
Anyone have any experience of this, as I'm assuming the processor has to be working before you can actually do the update? Seems a bit catch-22 to me.

Just awaiting delivery of mine (Premium model) to go with a X2 4400. Haven't heard anything, but updating your bios isn't going to be a problem, surely?
Rip - what's the difference between the Premium & Deluxe?

I'd say there wont be much of a difference m8 as it's a passive heatpipe cooler, providing you have a case with good airflow though. And if not a small fan hitting the passive cooler could make it even more overclockable. Sorted

Shouldn't need a bios update if its new - but on ASUS motherboard's it is easy to upgrade the bios via a floppy disk (check out the user manual - RTFM ).

The premium board allows you to do this in the BIOS so no need for screwdrivers.
Well worth considering if you think there may be a need to run a single card periodically.

Nothing wrong with Asus though.

Yes the DFI is a cracking board with loads more bios options than the A8 plus it's purposely built for OCing. I'll stick with ASUS though as I've never had a duff one in 15 years. My A8N is running no problem with the X2 3800 way over 4800 speeds and thats all I need
