How to access lost user area (documents) in Win XP
Hi - I don't know if it can be done... I had loads of stuff in 'my documents' in Windows XP - administrator level password protected, I have installed a new boot drive SATA and planned to use the old drive as a second boot drive but it will not work - I have access to it as a slave drive and can access al the other usernames areas but not my own - it just shows up as 'access is denied' - have tried in DOS with dosshell.exe and it tells me 0 files...
I have loads of stuff in there that I could do with retrieving - is it possible?
Cheers
Mick

assuming xp pro
can you take owner ship of the folder?
first you will need to go into my computer tools - folder options
into view and untick simple file sharring
right click on the folder in question and go to properties then click the security tab.
This should be the screen where the NTFS permissions are displayed (on domain pc at the mo will have a look at my home one when i get home)
once here, click on the advanced tab and then the owner tab. there should
be a tick box "replace owner on subcontainers and objetcs". tick that and click apply
give that a go its a while since ive done it so my guide here may be a little off
edited to add you may need to add the administrators security group back in to the ntfs permissions tab but not 100% sure on that.
