Question Wireless networking help

Hi,

I have currently got a connection between my laptop & desktop PC with a cat5 crossover cable allowing me to share files & access the internet on the laptop. I would like to be able to use the laptop downstairs and obviously the best way is to go wireless.

My laptop has built in wireless capability & i'm connected to the internet with a USB broadband modem in my PC. Is it simply a case of installing a wireless card in my PC to enable my laptop to connect to the PC as it is currently just without the Cat5 cable?

I would like to spend as little as possible so any suggestions/recommendations well come

Thanks,

Gareth

you would need a wireless router to have wireless internet.

Both PC's would then connect to the router be it wireless with wireless cards or with cat5 cable to the router. What do you have? cable or ADSL?

check out below link for routers, depending on how you connect to the net will depend on what one to buy

Mike's solution is probably the best but you could still just put a wireless network card in your PC and use that to access the internet and long as it is running XP.

I don't really want to go to the expense of getting a wireless router so would one of the following USB WiFi adapters (to be plugged in the PC) allow my laptop to communicate with my PC so I could browse the internet on the laptop in another room & share files?

Thanks,
