Default Problem accessing web.

Ok here`s my problem.

At the moment i use a Dell laptop, my connection to the web is through Telewest Cable broadband, and it just uses a standard Cat5/RJ45 cable between the PC and modem..and doesnt require any setup, just picks up an IP address, and off it goes.

So, i get myself a new PC.
Build it up, Win XP, all the same software as this laptop.

Plug it in...no access to web.
I get a page cannot be displayed, everytime.

Now, i thought it might be the network card/driver, so i tried a new driver.
Didnt work.
Tried another type of card..didnt work.

Now, when i do an IPCONFIG, on both machines, the laptop gets a default gateway address, and the PC doesnt.

The ip and subnets are different too...although i would expect the IP to change with the different machine.

Any ideas guys ??
I`m totally stuck.

You need to add your new network card mac address to the telewest datbase using self care. Or just phone them

Whats self care ??

I`ve never had to do it before though...
I sometimes bring different laptops home, and they work straight away.
