Broadband via wireless - inconsistent connection speeds

Broadband via wireless - inconsistent connection speeds
I have two PCs, both with wireless connections to a wireless ADSL Router and a BT 2mb Broadband service.
Both PCs are consistently 54mbps or above in their wireless connection...
...however one PC - my Vaio with Intel Centrino wireless consistently only provides half the Broadband download speed of other PC. The other PC has a Netgear wireless card and if anything shows a lower signal strength.
The upload speeds are exactly the same at around 240kbps.
Any clues as to why this might be?
Any support would be appreciated.

Nothing to do with BT - consistently different connection speeds between the two machines. One is ALWAYS half the speed of the other.
