Thanks - already looked at them.

As much as I hate to admit this, the best deal I can find so far is from Dell.

unfortuantely Dell have some amazing deals on at the mo. Got a mate just picked up a 15" widescreen with 60GB & 256Mb for almost £500 next he's going to add an extra 512MB (not from Dell ... have you seen their upgrade prices !!!) & he's got a pretty decent machine for les than £550.

It's almost comical some of the Dell upgrades .. just goes to show. What they give with one hand ... they take away with the other.

Are any of the Dell machines lightweight? I currently have an inspiron 8600 and it's a pain lugging it around everywhere.

Inspiron 2200 pricing doesn't match their specially offer front page...

Says the 512Mb one is £521, then you go into customise n buy, and its £615 - arrgghh!

Middle one - click on it, then get:

I've been quite happy with Acer laptops and they are on an "anti-Dell" drive at the moment, so places like Inmac and wstore have them at good prices.

It is actually for a friend, as work provide me my own self-destructive Thinkpad.
I'll send them the details.

We've been buying Toshiba L10's and some HP nx6110's recently - I'm pretty sure you can get one with that spec for sub £600

Not the fastest CPU but plenty of mem and wireless. (firewire in mx6110 too I think)
