Depends what you want it for and what sort of money you have to spend?
I bought a 6000 recently to sell onto somebody when Dell made one of their usual c0ckups on the website and personally,I wouldn't touch the Celeron processors unless you have to,but if it's cost effective, upgrade to the Pentium mobile (It was about £40 to upgrade from a Celeron to a P-Mobile 1.6ghz when I ordered)
One other thing to do on the 6000 is to upgrade to the 1680x1050 display which adds £35 to the price but is a worthwhile upgrade!

Good luck

What processor is in the NX and how much memory?
What price?
The system I quoted above will take some beating but it really depends whether you wanna spend that much money really (The spec I quoted didn't include the screen upgrade so add £35)

Cheers

That sounds to me like a Celeron processor based on the 333 memory and 1mb cpu cache. You never mentioned what price but bare in mind with that system you'll have to upgrade the memory anyway as it only comes with 256mb and I notice it doesn't have a dvd writer either. (Plus only 40gb hdd).
Mind you,it's down to what you wanna spend and what you need the system to do....

Just ordered one too off their small business section. I went for a very boggo spec 6000 (celeron 1.4, 256MB RAM, 60GB HDD, DVD/CDRW, Intel Graphics) as it's just for the missus to surf on. Only upgrade I made was to the screen for £35. Total price with vouchers etc was £479 delivered. I gather you can get another 512MB RAM off the net for £40 if I find it needs it.

Yep,about £45 from www.crucial.com
Don't **** about with memory and buy stuff cos it's a little cheaper as it can give you all kinds of problems. With all the Dell machines I've bought recently for people (20+) those that needed memory upgrades I've bought from Crucial and they've behaved 100% fine. It's free delivery on orders over £30 too IIRC

Cheers Nick, will order it now. Looks like there's no issue mixing and matching chips on this machine (?) so will add a 512MB to the single 256mb one that's in there. Should be plenty.

Ive got an Inspiron 6000, Centrino 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, 40GB HD, CD-RW, 128MB X300 ATI gphx card, 1280 x 800 display - cost was £580 a few months ago.

Got the missus one at the same but with a 1.3ghz celeron prossie and intel grphx but shes made up with it anyway and it only cost £440.

Highly recommended from my own personal experience.

The Inspiron 6000 is fine, the 9300 is massive. Make sure you extend the warranty for as long as you intend to own it - every one of my three Dell laptops has gone wrong at least once
