Booting from USB question

Booting from USB question
Bought a USB external hd case to use on the laptop on the move, the laptop doesnt support boot from usb, is there a way of booting from this usb hd by booting from cd rom with a driver on cd or something?
Then, will XP boot from dos via usb hard drive.
Any ideas?
