For £200 it's fine. Just as long as you don't plan to play any game later than Pong on it. Or edit any photo bigger then 40x30 pixels. It might be below the minimum spec for any version of M$ Office later than 95 though.

And as it's a Cyrix it will get hot enough to heat your house.

I wouldn't bother to be honest.

It's about 4 years old in tech terms for that motherboard etc.

You should be able to get a lot better spec for a bit more money. Or by from ebay.

Though I've never found the Cyrix that hot (cos it's not really fast enough to be hot!)

i will just be using it as a word processor and surfing the net.

So you recommend me not going for the Cyrix and going for a higher spec system?

Yeh I wouldnt touch a Cyrix system with a barge pole (stability issues) same applies to VIA chipsets to.

For 250 notes u can pickup a decent budget AMD box. Shop around.

Old joke: the Cyrixes that competed with the old AMD K2s got so hot you could cook breakfast on them.

^^^^^^

Now thats a better deal. I'd add another 256mb memory though = +£25ish (Get product code from Crucial, check ebuyer price)

Also, that one comes with Linux - so you'll need to add around..er..£60 for XP Home (OEM) from ebuyer. If you want windows that is.

Still a much better system than the original for a very similar price.

If he's surfing and WPing then there's no reason not to stay with Linux.
