A uk psp will do that as long as you don't install the version 2.0 firmware update that you get with it. but the v2.0 adds quite a bit of stuff inc. the web browser and I doubt that a jap model will be any different.

there should be no difference in screen quality - japan is R2 on the dvd front and the games for the psp aren't region coded.

I don't think I'll be bothering buying UMd movies anyway - not at £20 a pop. I've already got the dvd to PSP software up and running but just need to fiddle with the settings as the default is overkill for the PSP's screen (2hr film = 1.1gb)

IIRC

I've seen a Jap and a UK side by side, and the screen looks identical to me. Will likely cost more to import it from japan as well once you've paid the import duty.

It all depends on what you want to do with the PSP...... if you want to do "other" things with it, then currently you should be looking for one with a fiirmware version of 1.50 or less (these are still available on Ebay). If you want to know the FULL in's and out's of the "other" things, please look around the web (as this can not be discussed in detail within these forums).

Regards,
Shaun.
