Default WinXP Pro - START > SEARCH brings up error dialogue

Has anyone ever seen the search facility in WinXP bring up an error. By search I mean the one accessible from START button then selecting SEARCH from the menu.

The error dialogue says the search component is not found and allows no search whatsoever. Doesn't even bring up the screen where you enter your search criteria!

I've never seen this before and the computer has started to BSOD from time to time.

Sounds like missing system files. Have you tried to service or re-service packing the Windows?

Uhhh...!

When you re-service pack it basically puts missing system files back onto the PC. You don't need to remove SP2. Just re-run the SP2 update and it should do the rest for you.
