Why does the internet activity LED flash on my router and cable modem even when all the machines on my network are switched off???

Its probably still communicating with the server, letting it know its still there.

Hello

Random machines also scan the internet by pinging IP addresses to see if they get a result, that would cause (very little) traffic on your router.

Ahh. I was thinking that it was nosey ******* trying to hack into my network (not that there’s anything interesting to look at)
