Upgrading Hard Disk - Help
I decided to upgrade my old hard disk (Primary disk) as it is starting to get very noisy.
I have tried to clone the NTFS patition twice (once with the software from western Digital and then with a 3rd party tool), each time it seems to go ok.
When i plug the new disk in as the Master Disk it gives me a boot up error (nothing starts to load) of "OS load Error".
I even used the 3rd party tool to "fix" the MBR on the new drive to no avail
The system is a windows xp pro.
New Disk is a EIDE ATA 100 Western Digital 80gg 8mb ram
One thing i do notice (from boot screen) is that the Hard Disk is in CHS mode (set to auto in Bios), is this right ?
Can anyone help?
Cheers
James

You have a brand new hard disc and want to ghost a cluttered up copy of windows onto it? Are you mad?
Bite the bulett and do a fresh brand new clean install its the only way you will feel the benefit of a new HD.
In fact format the old one and do a fresh install and you will probably wonder why you bought a new one in the first place.

Put a fresh Windows install on your new disk and set it as the primary disk. install your old disk as a slave and copy over all your documents to the new hard drive. Format the old hard drive and use it to store music, pics etc.
