IBM thinkpad x22 battery life
full charge (100%) on my laptop only gives me 39mins life (according to the onscreen display)
does this seam right?
bought the unit second hand so i have no idea about battery life from new
i always thought if it charged to 100% it meant it was fine?

Your battery is going I'm afraid. My Thinkpad battery lasted about two years and then when fully charged it started to last 20-30 minutes. Absolutely nothing you can do about it, you will have to buy another one. They cost about £40.
When you DO get a new battery, make sure that you discharge it and recharge as this will prolong it's life. Most of the people I work with let the computer run on battery for 20 minutes and then recharge. Convenient, but it does shorten the life.

its been sitting on 0% and 0mins left for the past 5 mins while it plays a video

are you sure only £40?! i am sure for an original ibm battery will set you back a couple of hundred! i had a check at www.mdsbattery.co.uk and they are £119.
