Default Registry problem

For some reason whenever I start my laptop, it tries to install a new PCI device (even though nothing is new).

Obviously this slows down my machine and is damned irritating as I have to go through the process of deleting it every time.

Is there any quick fix for this or am I going to have to re-install Windows 2000?

TIA

ISTR that if you follow the "install new hardware" dialogue, and it fails to find the correct drivers, you get an option to "tick if you don't want to try to install again" on the final dialogue box.

TDT, you might also be able to disable the device in your device manager. Just where that is in 2000 I cant remember but start in the control panel and look for system or something similar. If you find the device you should be able to disable it and it wont try to load it next time you restart (or have I been using XP too long)
