Anyone know the inside track on this? Every man on his dog appears to be (re)selling this service - what's the deal?

Its is where you put your server onto someone elses network.
They supply you with power, x number of IP addresses and a certain amount of bandwidth either throttled or burstable per month.
If you are luckily you can remotely restart your machine through a power control unit such as an APC masterswitch.

There are too many virtual ISPs about.
If you want the name of a good privately owned company in their own privately owned building that is flexible enough and not too expensive then drop me a PM.
If you want 100Gbs of data for 5p a month. Don't bother

They are based in Dorset and I used to work for them until Sept last year.

I dont bother coloing. I just buy dedis. I just bought 2 * AMD based servers with 2 GB RAM and dual 80 GB hdds with 100MBit/s unmetered for shoutcasting and got change out of £1000 per month
