Default is it possible to image a RAID 5 volume?

HELP,

I've got a Dell PowerEdge 6400 server with with two PERC 3/DC controllers providing a few RAID5 volumes to a Win2K server.

What i'd like to know is, can the System Volume be imaged using Ghost or PQI.

Doing some installation work on what is a server running a sensitive application and would like to secure the installation somehow.

Any suggestions?

AB.

Yes.

I assume you want to system volume to be down before you image it? ie. you haven't booted from it. Can be done this way but I don't recommend it.

I have done it before in the past in 2 ways.

1) Pull the disks and stick them into another server with roughly the same raid card. Image it that way to local disk(s) or to a net share.

2) Build a bootable cd with one of those pre installed environments, ie. a Windows GUI with the raid drivers loaded booting from a cd...

I use to do this loads to test patches on Firewall1.

Is your system volume on a mirrored pair? if not, I suggest you do this next time

Just thought of another way, something like BackupExec Disaster Recovery module..

Have fun.

1 more thing. I know some of the older versions of Ghost didn't let you image servers, they had a version (that costs more hmm) to do it..

Unsure of the new versions as I don't do this anymore..
