Lightbulb What can you tell me about this email address.

gov10658@usa.com

Okay,i changed a couple of numbers for obvious reasons,but the other day i got an email from this address from someone i havent seen for 5 years.This person is pretty secretive,does anyone recignise the address in any form or is able to give me any clues.

This is usa.com. Doesn't look very interesting, and it looks like the e-mail addresses are open to all.

So with the word "gov" and usa.com it doesnt mean he works for the usa government or lives in the USA?

Let me add,this is the first contact from a member of my family who no-one has heard from or spoken to in 5 years.

No. If he worked for the US government he'd have an eddress of the form "xxxx@xxx.gov" - in his case "govxxxx" is just aname he's chosen.

If its asking for money, its a scam, there was something along those lines in the paper yesterday, some poor sod got swindled out of 3 grand.

Have a look in the message headers and you might find a source IP which might give you a bit more information.
