Laptop: Sony Vaio S3HP or Acer Ferrari 3400 lmi???
I need a new laptop.
critical aspects are:
small
lightweight
decent battery
good screen
dvd rw
must have good gaming performance
usually the words small, lightweight, good gaming performance don't sit well together in a laptop.
research has led me to the following systems:
http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/sony-vai...aptop-2-n2.htm
and
http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/Acer-Fer...aptop-1-n2.htm
looking at the two, Sony is 50% lighter, 50% better battery life, nearly 50% smaller, but with a less powerful processor and graphics chip. however it still seems to manage some fairly impressive gaming benchmarks.
the acer seems to pack an incredibly powerful punch, even compared with many desktops, and yet it is still only 3kg and fairly slimline. also the multi-card reader is useful for me. I am 50/50 about the Ferrari branding. having seen one in the flesh, to finish really has to be seen to be appreciated, and I am a huge Ferrari fans, however I don't usually wear my allegiances so vividly and publicly. it also looks incredibly nickable although what laptop isn't nowadays.
I am particularly keen to hear from anybody who has the Sony, or anybody who has any other recommendations that FIT THE REQUIREMENTS
thanks
Ed

Rather than the HP, go for the VP, which is only available from Sony themselves or SonyCentres. It comes with a gig of memory as standard and a slightly faster processor.
I paid fourteen and a half about a month ago from the Lichfield Sony Centre Galleria, and i believe that currently Sony are throwin in a three year warranty. I also got it on 18 months interest free credit - which was nice
Its a lovely bit of kit, and although i can't comment on the games performance, the screen is fantastic
Accessories (e.g. batteries, extra power supplies) for Sony aren't cheap though

Having just configured a Acer TravelMate 8104WLMi for a client I was very impressed
Mobile Intel® Centrino™ technology with Intel® Pentium® M 760 2.0GHz processor - Intel® 915PM Express chipset - Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200ABG, Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Edition, 15.4" WSXGA+ TFT display, 128MB ATI Radeon X700, 100GB HDD, 1024MB (2*512MB) DDRII, 56Kbps modem, wired LAN and integrated wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g), DVD-Super Multi, Li-Ion battery
Great screen and PCI EXpress with a ATi X700 ....pretty amazing spec and under 3Kg

Not sure Graphics Intel 855GME is really up to Edcase's desire for gaming performance. I've also heard some serious bad things about Sony's after sales and support Don't expect anything to get fixed very quickly seems to be quite the norm.

http://www.red-cloud.co.uk/catalogue...&productid=980
Free upgrade to 1gb, but a few hundred cheaper than the VP or XP
