Hi peeps,

After talkig to the boss I have the ok to do a systemwide upgrade to Gig-E rather than 100MBit, so can anyone give me any leads to any cheapish Gig-E with non blocking backplane with fibre uplink to a 1 Gig fibre 3com unit.

Also does anyone have any tips on recabling several dozen cabs with new power and network connectivity ?

What sort of cabs? & Servers?

In our HP 10,000 series cabs I have fitted 2x 24 CAT 6 port patch panels in the rear, these then link to the Cabinets with the core network switches in.

Power is supplied via 2x 32A sockets under the floor each fed off different phase / breaker. Each server PSU takes a feed from a different PDU. Need to be carefull having different phases in the same cab though!.

Ive also mounted 6" cable trays in the rear of the cabinet.

If you have cable management arms then look to see which side the cables should be fed from, ours are mostly on the rear left.. so all power and network cables run on the left hand side.

Each Server has three network connections and another CAT5 cable for the KVM.
All our cables are colour coded too.. Backup Link, Primary Link, iLO, KVM.

order power cables that are the correct length, if you must coil them up, do it in a figure of eight.

Also Label all the cables, cabinets etc.
