Default spyware help

anyone know to get rid of spyware?.
it just literally installed itself NOW.
and keep telling me to dl a file to get rid of it,
it is all over my desktop, in system32 folders etc etc

mcafee is not helping much,
i think it mentioned something about winsock.dll
i have to type this OFFLINE cos, its irritating me
theres a little icon on the taskbar which is a red circle with a cross in the middle.
this is the info when you click on it's warning bubble.

ps its from this site

don't click on it, as you might get it installed by accident

http://antispy.newgenlook.info/index...77&said=ad0271

btw i DO have 2 firewalls installed
mcafee AND systemsuite5

get adaware & spybot. run both after checking they are both up to date. Might also be handy to run McAfee's Stinger too.

SpyBotS&D and Ad-aware are both good.

Also try CWShredder

And Install SpywareBlaster to prevent stuff being installed in the first place

finally, have a look here tell you which anti-spyware stuff is genuine

Yeah looks like a simple hoax to me, the site says exactly the same for me and I know for a fact our systems are all clean.

Is it possible you can take the HDD our of the machine and put it an external caddy or as a 2nd drive in another machine?

I had to do that to a computer the other day because I could not get rid of the bloody viruses and spyware on it while it was the boot drive. Grrrrrr

Go to Google and type in " free computer virus scan " and Trend should be the third or so item down. Worth a try.

Have you by any chance installed msn plus on your system??

This is a well known cause of unwanted spyware which isnt easily removed.

I had a similar thing a month ago on the kids PC, sounds like the same site, putting pop-ups everywhere - probably from MSN.

I too despite trying with anti-spyware had to resort to a complete format and a complete day wasted trying to back up and re-install everything.

guys - if you get this kind of thing again, have a look at www.geekstogo.com

I have been able to resolve most of the spyware stuff myself, but anything that I am stuck with, a quick post there usually gets it sorted
